Games Tell Stories

Storytelling is alive and well in the gaming industry! In partnership with GrandCon Gaming Convention, KDL hosts presentations and Q&A on the importance of being able to write a great story in the gaming industry. Gamers and game designers are strongly encouraged to learn from this panel of industry greats: David M. Ewalt, author of the book Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It; Sean Patrick Fannon (aka "Big Irish" or SPF), whose projects include Hero Games' Champions product line, various World of Darkness books; and the Savage Worlds Epic High Fantasy setting, Shaintar; Kevin Siembieda, artist, game designer and writer; and Marc Tassin, creator of the Aetaltis fantasy campaign setting and the founder of Mechanical Muse..

Come meet this acclaimed Argentinian author as we share emotional, powerful words from some of her short stories found in, Trasegando Historias en Ritmo de Vino. Perhaps she will be inspiration to enter the Write Michigan contest, where we look for the best writers in Michigan with cash prizes. This event will be held in Spanish.

KDL Writers Conference: Crafting Edition

The second annual crafting edition of the KDL Writers Conference features authors and publishing insiders sharing their experiences with new and aspiring authors. This year we are also joining forces with Library Journal to bring you Indie Author Day: At the end of the conference, we will join other library indie communities for an hour-long digital gathering with writers, agents and industry leaders.

A half-hour break will be provided for lunch. Please bring a bag lunch or visit a surrounding restaurant. Snacks provided.

Pre-registration is required. A printed ticket is not required for admission.

Write Michigan Awards Ceremony

Join us in celebrating the fifth annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest! Copies of the 2017 Write Michigan Anthology will be available and winning authors will be on hand for a book signing.

Mardi Jo LinkMardi Jo Link, author of the memoirs Bootstrapper: From Broke to Badass On a Northern Michigan Farm and The Drummond Girls: A Story of Fierce Friendship Beyond Time and Chance, will present the keynote.
